About Delft Island

Surrounded by nature, stunning views of the countryside.

We assist you to explore the beautiful Island (Neduntheevu), 30kms off the Jaffna coast in Northern Sri Lanka, was long, arduous, yet the most unique on your trip to Sri Lanka. Delft Island takes authenticity to a whole new level. It’s so remote and off the beaten track that at times you feel like you’re on another planet.

Seven Wells Beach Delft Island

This Beach is littered with beautiful shells, making it the perfect location for collectors.

Sacred Bo Sanctuary Temple

This temple is home to the sacred Bo tree, which itself is a sapling from the original Bo tree Under which Lord Buddha gained enlightenment.

Horse Stable

These 3,280-foot-long stable were built by the Dutch to house their horses.

Delft Wild Horses

Originally brought here for the purpose of trade by the Portuguese, this entirely alien species of animal has since made their home on the Delft island.

Growing Stone

The origin story of this stone has been lost in time. However, the local village elders claim that they have witnessed this stone grow over the years.

Baobae Tree

These unique trees have been planted in 34 locations across the Northern province, one of which being, the Delft island.

Pigeon’s Nest

During colonial times, these nests were the homes of messenger pigeons.

Delft Dutch Fort

Ralph Henry Bassett describes this fort in detail in his book, “Romantic Ceylon: History, Legend and Story”.

Hanuman’s Footprint

Legend says that Lord Hanuman left his footprint here during his journey from India to Sri Lanka whilst carrying a part of the Himalayan mountain range on his back to save Lord Lakshman who was gravely injured at the time.

Queen’s Tower

This uniquely shaped 55-foot-tall tower was used to help ships navigate at night. A fire would be lit at the base of the tower which would be then reflected up its spire.
